For facilities in North and South America and Asia, Sandwell's engineers, economists and planners have provided privatization studies, cargo forecasts, cost estimates and master plans, as well as design, equipment specification and EPCM services.
Port facilities are a key link in the transportation chain from manufacturer to consumer. Our specialized simulation models assist in both the planning and operation of container and general cargo facilities. Suitable for most terminal configurations and with the sophistication to reflect interactions among numerous variables, they provide a cost-effective analytical tool for assessing both existing and proposed operations.

General cargo dock
Port of Beaumont, Beaumont, Texas
This new general cargo terminal on the Neches River accommodates river barges and ships up to 54,000 DWT. Sandwell provided design and construction supervision services for the facility, which includes a 400 x 80 ft berth and deck designed to accommodate concentrated crane loads of up to 190 tons.

Planning review
Puerto Lirquen, Lirquen, Chile
The port required a second pier to deal with a rapid increase in cargo volumes, especially containers. The Bay of Concepcion is a region of extreme seismic activity, and Sandwell was retained to undertake ongoing reviews of the design. We focused on optimizing the seismic elements for efficiency and economy. Coupled with ongoing value engineering services, the structural review produced major construction cost savings.
