LNG/LPG Terminals

Sandwell's LNG/LPG terminal involvement has skyrocketed in the past 5-6 years. Building on decades of marine and offshore experience, our strengths lie in the development of marine terminals and offshore platform components, as well as the simulation of entire marine transportation systems.

Sandwell's LNG/LPG terminal involvement has skyrocketed in the past 5-6 years. Building on decades of marine and offshore experience, our strengths lie in the development of marine terminals and offshore platform components, as well as the simulation of entire marine transportation systems.

Recent assignments include:

  • Detailed design for marine structures and dredging for 200,000 m3 LNG carrier terminal. [Altamira, Mexico]
  • Marine safety and downtime analysis for gravity-based structure. [Gulf of Mexico]
  • Owner's Engineer for exposed LNG terminal. Mathematical modeling of ship motions, sedimentation analysis and detailed design of breakwater and dredging.  [Peru]
  • EPC tender documents for an LPG/Naphtha export terminal. Scope included developing metocean design parameters, ship size recommendation, non-linear mooring and downtime analysis, preliminary design, cost estimating, and construction scheduling for the 3 km trestle and loading berth. [Peru]
  • Metocean analysis, tanker motion analyses and downtime assessment for traditional harbor, offshore GBS arrangements and FSRUs for a number of potential terminal sites. Design, cost estimating and construction scheduling for the breakwater protected traditional harbor option. [North America]
  • Study for a new LNG receiving terminal, including downtime analysis, construction scheduling and cost estimating of a conventional trestle/hammerhead berth for LNG carriers up to 165,000 m3 at an exposed site with up to 9m tide variation. [North America]
  • lng arms
Design validation of an offshore LPG offloading terminal concept consisting of a gravity-based storage and production structure and an offloading pier for two berths. The work included development of the designs of the LPG carrier berths, LPG storage system, ballast system and the storage structures for the support of process and production facilities; metocean analysis to optimize the orientation of the berthing and the storage facilities; and comparison of fixed and floating storage concepts. [Nigeria]

On landbacked and offshore installations, both fixed and floating, Sandwell offers the following services:

  • Planning
  • Navigation safety
  • Hydrodynamics
  • Preliminary and detail design
  • Weather downtime assessment
  • LNG/LPG carrier motion analysis
  • Loading analysis for extreme climates (ice/wind forces).

We can undertake the simulation of an entire LNG/LPG marine transportation system--incorporating transit and weather delays, berth downtime, tanker and fleet size, terminal storage, pipeline capacity and processing strategies--using our newly upgraded marine transportation simulation model. We have completed such system simulations all over the world: Gulf of Mexico, transpacific, transatlantic, Suez, North Pacific and Indian Ocean.
