Mills can exploit niche market opportunities by improving the printability or surface characteristics of their paper. Such improvements may involve equipment additions or modifications, or the addition of minerals and chemicals within the sheet of paper or on its surface.
Sandwell specialists offer practical experience in the development of value-added papers, finding economical solutions for improvements to both paper and board grades, including linerboard, coated and uncoated printing papers, and specialty grades.
We are familiar with the process technology associated with value-added papers, including SC grades and coated papers. Our expertise extends from the specific pulping requirements through modifications to stock preparation and the paper machine, and the specialized demands of coating, calendering and winding.
Recent assignments include an on-line film coater for a U.S. mill. Current work includes pulp mill modifications, wet-end modifications by the addition of chemicals or equipment, and surface modification through metering size presses or coating applicators and/or calendering.
