Process studies, design, construction management, start-up and troubleshooting are all geared toward assisting clients to attain optimal performance of the fiberline by reducing costs, enhancing environmental performance and improving product quality.
Sandwell stresses staying current on all aspects of pulping technology, from process and equipment design to installation and operation. We offer practical experience in the design of mechanical fiberlines for production of any grade of pulp, ranging from high-yield thermomechanical for newsprint to chemithermomechanical and chemimechanical pulps. We have worked with clients on design of complete fiberlines as well as on the various component operations, including:
- chip screening and handling
- chip washing
- chip thermal and chemical treatment (impregnation, preheating)
- high consistency refining
- low consistency refining
- latency chest
- pulp screening and cleaning (holes, slots, systems)
- pulp thickening and washing (disc filters, screw presses, twin wire presses, etc.)
- bleach plants (hydrogen peroxide, sodium hydrosulfite) including chemical product preparation and storage
- heat recovery systems (reboilers, pressurized scrubbers, atmospheric scrubbers).

TMP Plant
The new 450-BDt/d TMP plant includes two main refining lines (three stages), complete with chip handling and washing system, new pressure screens, new 350-BDt/d peroxide bleaching plant (one high consistency stage with post-washing), and a bleach liquor preparation system. The project also involved converting the existing atmospheric refining system to a two-stage reject refining line and modifying the secondary effluent treatment and sludge dewatering systems to handle the additional BOD loading.

cTMP and Bleach Plant
This 600 BDt/d cTMP facility includes chip handling, preparation and impregnation, two pressurized mainlines of primary and secondary refiners, and two-stage pressurized screening and cleaning. The plant also features three reject refiners, a mainline heat recovery system and a hydrosulphite bleaching system.

Mill Modernization
The mill's modernization program included a new 600 BDt/d TMP plant, the upgrade of the chip handling facilities, and improvements to the existing OPCO pulp plant. The TMP process consists of chip washing, three lines of two-stage pressurized refining, screening, cleaning, thickening and bleaching. The rejects system has two pressurized rejects refiners and its own screening and cleaning system. Heat recovery was included.
