Sandwell has received numerous awards for innovation and excellence in pulp mill design, oil drilling structures, coal handling and port facilities, bridge design and construction, and environmental and pollution abatement.

Sandwell has received numerous awards for innovation and excellence in pulp mill design, oil drilling structures, coal handling and port facilities, bridge design and construction, and environmental and pollution abatement. Recent awards include:

  • Design award (Publics Works category) from the American Concrete Institute for the oil transshipment facility at Whiffen Head, Nfld.
  • Award of Excellence for the Molikpaq spacer arctic offshore platform, the first of its kind in the world.
  • Award of Merit for the Collahuasi copper export terminal in Iquique, Chile.
  • Award of Merit for the power boiler No.19 installation, Pacifica Papers Inc. (formerly MB Paper Ltd.) at Powell River, B.C. The Sandwell-designed system includes one of the largest woodwaste-fired bubbling bed boilers in North America.
  • Award of Merit for the Port of Long Beach, California.
  • Award of Merit for the simulation and analysis model developed for B.C. Ferry Corporation. Interactive and user friendly, the model tracks the movement of passengers, vehicles and ferries in the multi-terminal ferry system.
  • Portland Cement Association award for the Big Qualicum Bridge.
  • Environmental Award for the tertiary effluent treatment system, Crestbrook Forest Industries Inc. at Cranbrook, British Columbia. Designed to remove color from the mill effluent stream, the system is the first of its kind in Canada.

Sandwell's safety program has also received recognition.
